Laid-back

Wearing: (Coat: Calvin Klein, Sweater: BCBG, Leggings: Zara, Shoes: Zara, Bag: Rebecca Minkoff (borrowed from my sister), Scarf: Zara)

When I took these pictures it was SO windy.  My hair was blowing everywhere which made it hard to take pictures.  There is nothing special about this outfit but it is my go-to on the weekends.  I like to be comfortable when I am out running errands & grabbing lunch.  Leather leggings are a great way to look put together without trying too hard.  I also love a structured coat for the same reason.  Have a great Wednesday. xx

Pop of Print

Wearing: (Jacket: Topshop, Shirt: Gap, Skirt: Silence + Noise, Tights: Express, Shoes: YSL, Bag: Rebecca Minkoff(thanks Katie), Sunnies: Ray-Ban, Rings: h&m, Earrings: Kenneth Cole, Necklace: Gifted.)

I've always enjoyed animal print, but I like to wear it minimally.  Just a touch of it will usually do the job.  Prints are fun to play around with, but I always have the mindset of "less is more" because it can get overwhelming quickly.  I also don't recommend wearing animal print in bright colors- it reminds me of Jersey Shore. xx

Hair & Skin

Happy Friday all!  I have always loved taking care of my hair & skin because they're both very important to me.  I work at a beauty boutique so I have learned so much about hair & skin through the years with different training.  Using the right products is crucial & very important if you want healthy looking hair & skin.

Skin Care: What I Use

Cetaphil Daily Facial cleanser: The reason why I love this cleanser is it's gentle yet effective & smells amazing!  You can find it at Walgreens or Target (along with other drugstores).  It is a super mild foaming cleanser that removes makeup & surface oils.  It is made for normal/oily skin types.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant: This product is a life savor!  It's a powder that when water is added forms a foaming milky substance.  It does an amazing job at exfoliating & it's safe to use everyday!  I would recommend using it in the morning because you get a serious glow from this one.

Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant:  Another one of my favorites from Dermalogica.  This two in one product works as an exfoliant & a mask.  I use this once a week to restore my skin.  It also gives you a healthy glow.

Dermalogica Ultracalming Mist:  Since my skin is so sensitive I have to be super careful with what I'm using on my skin.  Dermalogica has a full Ultra Calming line that is absolutely amazing, but my favorite is this mist.  After I am done cleansing & exfoliating I spritz this toner on my face & neck for immediate hydration and relief.  A little tip is to store a bottle in your fridge in the summer and when you come home you can spritz it all over, it'll be nice and chilled! Also, if you're skin is feeling tight & dry you can spray over makeup!  It won't ruin it or take it off.  (The bottle comes in a mini size for your bag)

Dermalogica Active Moist:  When it comes to moisturizing I want something basic that'll do it's job.  Active Moist does just that without leaving my skin feeling oily.  Dermalogica also has two other moisturizers that are medium & heavy weight depending on your skin.  If you're in the Des Moines area you can grab Dermalogica products at Beauty First in West Des Moines, & every second Saturday professional skincare is 20% off.

Bobbi Brown Eye Cream: I don't use eye cream as much as I should, but this Bobbi Brown eye cream feels amazing & is super soothing.

Aquaphor:  The best stuff ever created.  If you have dry cracked skin anywhere, use this shit.

Hair Care: Just My Favorites (I use too much)

AG Ultramoist & Xtramoist Shampoo + Conditioner: I'm nuts about AG products because they are on the natural side yet still deliver amazing quality. This shampoo & conditioner are enriched with moisture & protein to leave the hair hydrated, shiny and nourished.

It's a 10 Miracle Leave In Product: I have super long hair that gets tangly very easily.  If I spray this in right after my shower and leave it on for a couple minutes my hair isn't as tangly.  It also smells nice & delivers 10 benefits to your hair.  Worth it!

Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray:  I spray this into my hair when I want that messy bed-head look.  It gives you undone texture/second day hair.

Moroccanoil Hydrating Mask: Use masks/deep conditioners no more than twice a week.  People don't realize that if you overdue it you will get reverse results.  Anyway this mask is amazing! I've been using it for years & it never disappoints.

Wet Brush: Best brush for detangling. The super flexible bristles don't tug on your hair.  I also use this in my dry hair. Life savor!

Moroccanoil: I have also been using moroccanoil on my hair since I can remember.  It honestly is the best hydrating treatment for your hair.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! xx

In With The New

All from Zara

I have been in a warm weather mood lately & I can't stop buying sandals.  It has been miserably cold here & it just makes me happy to think I'll be in Palm Springs in two months.  I bought this t-shirt because the color is amazing.  It looks a bit more bright in pictures, but it's actually almost a muted pink.  I thought the letters looked pretty with the color & cant wait to pair it with my favorite jean shorts.  Have a great Wednesday. xx

Beauty Routine

Beauty Routine

Let me just start off by saying... I love experimenting with makeup!  Throughout the years I have been trying to perfect my makeup routine by trying almost every brand there is.  My skin is pretty normal but it can get oilier in the summer.  I hate using liquid foundation because it seems so heavy.  I recently found this amazing Chanel powder.  It has a nice medium coverage but you can build it up to full.  I only use it on special occasions, so for class and errands I will use Bare Minerals loose matte powder.  It doesn't look as pretty as the Chanel, but it works.  My go to primer is from Dermalogica.  I honestly don't know what I would do without this magical stuff.  It really makes my makeup THAT MUCH better.  If I have an imperfection Laura Mercier does the trick.  It's a dry concealer so it covers a lot better than a liquid concealer.  I use Bare Minerals stroke of light everyday under my eyes no matter what.  It immediately wakes me up & makes me look alive.  I've used the same MAC blush since I was in middle school.  It is the perfect shade (pink swoon) & it stays on.  I've also used the same mascara since I can remember which is L'oreal.  I used to color my brows in slightly, but I recently stopped and am just using Anastasia brow gel to shape them & keep them in place.  I am weird about bronzer & usually don't use it, but when I do I use Smashbox bronzer lights.  It's a nice light shade & the color works well on my pale skin.  I never use eyeshadow really.  When I do though I use a Bobbi Brown shadow set my mom got me two Christmas' ago or just the same couple MAC shades I have had forever.  Last but definitely not least, the only product that really helps my chapped lips (other than Aquaphor) is EOS lip balm.  I like the purple colored one the best!  Have a lovely day & stay beautiful. xx

Grey Day

Wearing (Coat: Mcginn @ Nordstrom, Sweatshirt: Gap, Jeans: Target, Heels: BCBG, Purse: Coach, Necklace: Gifted, Earrings: Cole Haan, Rings: h&m)

Happy Friday all!  It has been so cold up in Ames so I haven't really been in the mood to take pictures considering the snow and wind.  I eventually braved the cold though & ran a couple errands with a friend.  I love wearing grey.  It is such a good color to pair neutrals with, like nude & white.  Has anyone else tried target jeans?  They are actually pretty nice!  This grey pair has lasted a lot longer than I expected & I love how they're cropped!  Anyway, I hope everyone has a great weekend! Stay warm. xx

Room Review II

A picture of my Dad + vanity tray w/ little gold elephant
Jewelry box + frame

For those that didn't know, I am obsessed with elephants.  I found the little gold elephant at Target and couldn't help but buy it.  Last year's apartment didn't have actual closets so I had to basically build mine.  This year however, we have actual closets with actual shelves.  I am a big believer in less is more, as many of you probably know by now (if you've read my previous posts).  It's not about the quantity you have in your closet, it's the quality.  You can have a ton of clothes, but you probably don't wear close to half of them.  If I don't wear something after about 6-7 months I get rid of it because I am simply never going to wear it.  What really makes a difference is if you can re-create looks using the same pieces of clothing.  I challenge everyone to do that!  I couldn't be more obsessed with my jewelry box.  I found it when I was thrifting with my mom this summer.  It's probably one of the best purchases I have ever made.  The "why, hello" frame is a little DIY project I did.  I am the least crafty person, ever, so it took me by surprise that I even thought of doing it.  I received a Madewell postcard in the mail & this was the front of it.  I cut it out and put it in my gold frame.  Ta-da!  I know, so crafty :)  I hope everyone has a great Thursday! xx

Room Review / Part I

All white bedding makes the room more relaxing.
Little books I've collected over time & a chevron jewelry box.  All in my antique white bookshelf I've had since I was a little girl.
Muted pink & black add a nice pop on the white.
Little white bookshelf
Wisdom candle from my bestie (Paige), favorite pic of my sisters, mom & I,  & fake peonies..obviously.

My Grandma's beautiful gold mirror she let me borrow..to die for.
Nightside table with a handsome Target lamp, tv control & candle.
Black antique vanity with a gold kleenax box, jar of brushes, and black mirror

My room is my sanctuary.  For me I need to have it exactly the way I want it because it helps my happiness.  I love lots of white in a room.  Too much color can get chaotic really fast.  I also think minimal decorations is important because too many decorations = clutter.  My room has mainly white, gold, and black in it, as well as my wardrobe.  It is really fun to find stuff from antique stores too, because you know it'll be one of a kind.  This is only part one of my room review, so stay tuned tomorrow for part II!  Have a wonderful Wednesday. xx
